The cheap Computer set up I'm planning to buy

Hey guys, I found decent gaming parts which come to a total of $400 with tax and shipping. I'm going to build it myself, maybe get some help from friends, it will be the first one I'm ever going to build. Here it is.

AMD Phenom II x2 (unlocked to x4) 555 BE 3.2 gHz
4 GB G.Skill Ripjaws RAM
500 GB 6Gb/s 7200 RPM Western Digital Hard Drive
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB GDDR5
Biostar A880G+ Motherboard
Cooler Master 500w PSU
Sony 24x SATA Optical Drive
HEC Blitz Black Steel Edition ATX Mid Tower Case
1x Rosewill White LED Fan

The processor is basically a 955 (quad core 3.2gHz) but with two cores disable, but you can easily unlock the disable cores, geting you a $120 processor for $90.

  2. Looks like a decent set up; I would recommend more RAM though.

  3. Not bad, you should get cheaper RAM though and a 1tb 7200 RPM Samsung hard drive to save money.

Unlocking the cores IS NOT 100% chance, It could fail and then you're stuck with a 3 core or a dual core CPU

  4. RAM is very good for its price, I don't need 1 TB, besides its more expensive, the WD is on sale or something for $50, while the cheapest Samsung is $60. I'm fine with a 3 core, i could tolerate a dual core, im not a speed freak or anything.

  5. I have a question, why you chose AMD instead of an Intel chip? I read many blogs and most of them say that Intel is always better than AMD

  6. @linux,
Because I'm building a budget system, and AMD's are much cheaper. You can get an i3 one core for the same price as an AMD dual core(and make it quad) at the same speed.
